Starting a mental health blog is something that takes a lot of thought, purpose and energy. I never thought it would be something that I would do, however in recent years when I faced my own challenges with mental health I thought that it would be a good idea to share my story and what I have learnt with the world. Hopefully this blog will help those who might be suffering with mental health challenges. Even if it is just one person who finds hope, makes a change, or lives a happier life as a result of the blog, then I have achieved my goal. So join me on this journey to the wellness of mental health.
How did this journey start?
My name is Stef and I decided to start a blog around wellness and mental health. Mental health is such an important part of a happy life and unfortunately too many people are not paying any attention to their mental health. I was one of these people, constantly suppressing any negative emotions, and pushing myself without taking any regard for my emotions. Ambitious, fun, cocky, driven and full of confidence were all words that people would describe me with – but when my mental health declined, I could not be further from myself. I didn’t know who I was, or even who I use to be. After deciding to accept my challenges and embrace my mental health, I eventually learnt how to make positive mental health a part of my lifestyle – and I look forward to sharing my story with you and what I have learnt over the past few years.
How is the journey towards positive mental health going?
Since making the changes I have now lived the happiest years of my life. And in no way are things perfect, however it is about knowing how to deal with the challenges that life will throw at us every day that makes us happier and able to cope. Many of the challenges we face exist in our mind only (or how we perceive them in our mind), and I am excited to be able to share with you what I think will help you live a life that you did not know was possible.
Why did I start a mental health blog?
Why the blog you might ask? For me it is something that is not only for you, but it is also for me too. In recent years I have seen that times are getting tougher, and people are being harsher and harsher on themselves and to others. In Western society, we have never lived in a time with so many good things available to us; however we are put under constant pressure to live up to our expectations and keep up with the rest of the pack. I constantly hear stories of people that are looking at things the wrong way, dealing with anxiety, depression, negative thoughts, and even worse some of them taking their own lives. This is not something that we need to be dealing with in the 21st century. With living standards, technology and the amount of things you can do for fun all being at the highest standards since records went back, why are we feeling anxious or depressed? How do these negative thoughts just come out of nowhere and never seem to leave our mind? These are some of the questions I will cover off on my blog and hope to help us all find the answers of how we can live a happy, fulfilling life, being able to cope with the day to day challenges that life throws at us. So tune in to find out more about my story, and how I am learning to deal with these challenges. The blog will also take in other people’s stories and experiences along the way to help show us that we are not alone and there are many ways you can build a positive, happy lifestyle.
